About

Cristina Martinez Istillarte, originally from Spain, has been part of the New Orleans community for over 5 years. She has a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies at Tulane University where she has been teaching Spanish, Literature, and Film courses for 6 years. Cristina earned a bachelor’s degree in Translation and Intercultural Communication in Spain, a M.A in Spanish at Florida Atlantic University. She has also been advising and teaching first generation students at Loyola University for 2 years. As an educator, facilitator, and cultural researcher Cristina has dedicated the last 9 years to social justice, diversity, and inclusion in higher education. Cristina participated in the 2023 cohort of the Nancy M. Marsiglia Institute at Loyola Law School.
