POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION AND CAREER
ACCESS

ESCALERA

Escalera is a national program that promotes economic mobility for Latine youth. Centering the experiences of first-generation, Latine immigrant students, Escalera supports students as they prepare for postsecondary education and career pathways while developing their professional and leadership skills.

Puentes partners with local high schools to offer Escalera on-site at schools for students in grades 9 - 12. Escalera supports students through their entire high school career, providing guidance and support through the following:

  1. College and postsecondary support: program exploration, applications, personal statements, ACT prep

  2. Scholarship support: FAFSA applications and scholarships for students of any immigration status

  3. Career exploration and industry exposure

  4. Soft skills & leadership development

  5. Experiential learning through guest speakers and field trips

  6. Individual student advising and case management

Since 2014, our Escalera program has served 230 youth from three local high schools and had 140+  scholars walk the stage at graduation! Our Escalera graduates have received over $500,000 in scholarships from various public and private sources.

Puentes is proud to offer Escalera in Jefferson Parish Schools and looks forward to expanding Escalera to Orleans Parish high schools for the 2024-2025 academic school year.
